Nina Arens is a scientist and informal educator with a passion for redefining science education in her community. She has worked as a teacher and curriculum writer in many places in Seattle such as Pacific Science Center, Technology Access Foundation, and Play-Well TEKnologies. Her curatorial work has been featured in the 2011 Seattle Science Festival and the 2013 Seattle Mini Maker Faire.
In addition to running Pop-Up Science, Nina maintains an active relationship with Seattle's large scientific community, working in the heart of South Lake Union as a trained cellular biologist. Becky Pittman is a preschool teacher at The Farm and Nature Preschool in Farrel-McWhirter Park in Redmond. She collaborates with Pop-Up Science because bringing The Science to The People, partnering with existing community spaces, and prompting people to explore and learn through doing are probably the most awesome things ever.
After moving to Seattle post-college, Becky helped lead community volunteers to restore their local parklands through Earthcorps, where she discovered an innate passion for teaching. Since then, she's been facilitating students' learning in a variety of outdoor settings in which, together, teachers and students collaborate, ask questions, converse, and make discoveries. Becky holds a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies from Guilford College, and a Masters of Education with a focus in Science Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. |
