Pop-Up Science is a pop-up museum dedicated to science, technology and creativity. Our programs aim to teach students the skills they need to succeed in STEM, while empowering scientists to speak up and take a role within their communities.

Pop-Up Science is a project which strives to change public perception about science and technology through new learning experiences that bring citizens and scientists together. We travel to all kinds of neighborhoods—from coffeehouses to public parks and everywhere in between—to surprise and delight people with science.
Research shows that learning in informal environments such as parks, museums, or after-school programs is just as important as learning in classrooms. It helps students to approach new topics, connect more deeply to old ones, and apply what they know to real-life scenarios. At Pop-Up Science, we believe all students deserve access to quality science education, which is why we try to bring informal learning opportunities to as many neighborhoods as possible.
We do this through unique strategic partnerships with impassioned neighborhood volunteers and organizations, pooling resources to create site-specific events across many of Seattle’s diverse communities. Working in the community simply puts us closer to home, which means we’re easier to get to—and this doesn’t go only for the students. Scientists and engineers are some of the busiest people on the planet, with schedules that sometimes just doesn’t allow for public outreach. So while we seek to engage students locally, we also strive to be a platform for STEM professionals to experiment with how they can integrate public communication into their lives and into their careers. We offer a spectrum of ways for scientists and engineers to get involved—from consulting on curriculum to building bioreactors in their backyards.
This collaborative approach yields a constantly changing schedule of events that are often cross-disciplinary and intimately tied to the lives of our visitors—both scientists and citizens alike. Currently, we offer:

So yes, we’re a little different than other museums. We’re homeless, we’re all inclusive, and we’re not really into collecting things. What we do like to collect are relationships. Relationships with people, relationships with scientists, relationships with communities—so that, hopefully, we can help others build new, inspiring relationships with science, as it occurs in our city.
